XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) is an XML-based language for the electronic communication of business and financial data. XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a standard for the electronic exchange of data between businesses and on the internet. XML applies identifying tags to data items so that they can be processed efficiently by computer software.
XBRL is currently in the development stage. It will allow tagging of financial data in great detail, making it possible to automate the preparation, analysis, and communication of business information. A number of regulatory agencies and stock exchanges have committed to using XBRL and the SEC has proposed a pilot program. XBRL is an open standard with no license fees.
A complex technical infrastructure supports XBRL, and tools for analysis and conversion are being developed. An XBRL tool must do more than simply identify tags. XBRL tags provide detailed information about the item, including the item's type, number format, and how items are related to one another. XBRL is also highly adaptable to meet individual companies needs. |

Integreon is developing an XBRL tool that is a plug-in to Word and Excel. This solution provides full XBRL conversion functionality, while allowing users to continue working in a familiar environment. Our software will allow users to convert information into XBRL so it can be searched, selected, exchanged or analyzed by computer, or published for ordinary viewing. Our software is both a taxonomy editor and an instance document creator.
